We will pick you up from your accommodation in Punta Arenas (urban area) at 7:00 a.m. to begin a 70 km journey south, skirting the Strait of Magellan until reaching the end of the road known as “Route 9.”
Next, we will walk to the start of the ascent. After receiving instructions from the guide and preparing the equipment, you will begin an ascent of approximately 4 hours through native forests, peat bogs, and changing landscapes until reaching, weather permitting, the summit of Mount Tarn (834 m / 2,736 ft), where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Strait of Magellan, Dawson Island, San Isidro Lighthouse, Mount Sarmiento, and the other mountains that form part of the peninsula.
Along the way, you will get to know the Guaitecas cypress — considered the southernmost conifer in the world — and you may also have the chance to observe various species of native birds, such as the Magellanic woodpecker.
You will spend about 45 minutes at the summit before beginning the descent, which will take approximately 3.5 hours.
We will return to the vehicle and head back to Punta Arenas, arriving at approximately 7:00 p.m.
In case of bad weather, the possibility of waiting for improvement or taking an alternative hike will be considered.
